D.I.Y. Red, White and Blue Slushie

Welp – you see ’em on Instagram . .how can you enjoy one of those pretty and patriotic boozy slushies at home?  More importantly, are you going to need a million ingredients?

We have some recipes gathered here for you and a few tips on how we make ours here, at The George Jones.

The main rule of thumb seems to be pretty common – start off with a nice frozen base.  Honestly, a lime margarita or pina coloda could work.  Find your favorite recipe and blend up a nice thick version of one or the other.  Most grocery stores now carry Coco Lopez – which is a really high quality coconut syrup that is great in pina coladas (with or without booze).  The one special ingredient that gets that blue color for you is BLUE CURACAO.  (This contains alcohol – if you are doing a non alcoholic version it is a little more difficult – you will most likely mix a high quality food coloring into your base colada recipe. – We say high quality because it will take a lot of grocery bought coloring to get that deep blue color)

Ok! Here we go!

Pina Colada Recipe

1 oz Coco Lopez

2 oz White or Coconut Rum (if you love coconut  – a good coconut rum like Malibu will amp up the tropical vibes for you – Rum Horhcata is also great)

1 oz Pineapple Juice

1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice

Throw all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.

At this point – you can either double this recipe and add a little strawberry puree to half of the pina colada to make the “red” layer.  Or you can make a strawberry daquiri.  We honestly like just adding a little strawberry to half or our colada mix.

Assembly:

In the glass you wish to use first add one ounce of Blue Curacao.

Carefully pour the plain pina colada mix on top – being careful to go slowly so the two don’t mix.

Using the same procedure add the strawberry colada to the top of the drink.

Garnish with whipped cream and a cherry – if you wish!

Enjoy!  Happy Fourth of July from the Staff here at The George Jones!
